Majene, September 1, 2026 – Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of Majene Regency recorded a monthly deflation of 0.16 percent in August 2026. Meanwhile, on a year-on-year basis, Majene experienced inflation of 1.27 percent—with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 111.34—and a calendar-year inflation rate of 2.20 percent.

The monthly deflation was driven by the food, beverage, and tobacco group, with key commodities including tomatoes, shallots, red chilies, garlic, and broiler chicken meat. In the presentation, the Head of BPS Majene Regency stated, "In August 2026, Majene Regency experienced monthly deflation for the first time in the year. This 0.16 percent deflation was primarily driven by the food, beverage, and tobacco group, specifically commodities such as tomatoes, shallots, red chilies, garlic, and broiler chicken meat."

On a year-on-year basis, all expenditure groups saw an increase in their indices. The largest increase occurred in the personal care and other services group (4.25 percent), followed by transportation (3.28 percent) and household furnishings, equipment, and routine maintenance (3.27 percent).

In terms of contribution, the transportation group was the largest contributor to annual inflation (0.36 percent), followed by the housing, water, electricity, and household fuel group (0.21 percent) and the personal care and other services group (0.20 percent). Commodities that predominantly drove inflation included red chilies, gold jewelry, bottled water, engine oil/lubricants, tamarind, and bird's eye chilies.

Overall, price trends in August 2026 showed a monthly decline, although consumer price levels continued to rise on a year-on-year basis. BPS Majene Regency will continue to monitor price developments and provide accurate, reliable statistical data to support inflation control and data-driven policymaking.
